How to play Look Back at Me

Help your dog discover that checking in with you is a fun choice. Start somewhere quiet, where your dog can relax and notice you.

  1. Give your dog a moment.Stand or sit comfortably and wait. Keep your hands still, and let your dog choose what to do.
  2. Watch for a glance.The instant your dog looks toward you—even briefly—say “Yes!” in a cheerful voice.
  3. Make the moment rewarding.Offer a small treat, start a short game, or invite your dog to move with you. Choose something your dog enjoys.
  4. Pause, then play again.Give your dog time to look around. When they check back in, mark it with “Yes!” and reward again.
  5. Finish while it’s fun.Try a few easy repetitions, then let your dog sniff or rest. Practise again later in another calm place.

As your dog gets comfortable, practise in new places a little at a time. Stay at a distance where your dog can still think, respond and enjoy the game.
